From the very first contact, through the complimentary in-home visit, and during every subsequent session with you or your loved one, Valerie will be the friendly and familiar presence dedicated to nurturing a meaningful and lasting connection. Owner of Nested Roots, Valerie Jackson has an education in Therapeutic Recreation with an extensive background in senior support and dementia care.

Nested Roots was founded to provide essential support for seniors who continue to cherish residing in their own homes and are not yet ready for full time care but require some assistance with specific tasks.
​
I strive for meaningful work, have a passion for connecting with seniors, and believe that independence and autonomy should be
priorities regardless of age or ability.
Related qualifications beyond my Therapeutic Recreation diploma include Emergency First Aid & CPR Certification, Foodsafe, Non-Violent Crisis Intervention, and Gentle Persuasive Approach through Advanced Gerontological Education. My most recent certification is 'Understanding Dementia', a 7-week open course offered through University of Tasmania.
Nested Roots is fully insured and bonded, with a vulnerable sector police check and references available.
What is Therapeutic Recreation?
Therapeutic Recreation focuses on increasing joy and life purpose by removing limitations or barriers, creating meaningful experiences and improving quality of life. Basic tenets of this practice are that all beings have the fundamental right to autonomy, dignity and self-determination.
As practitioners, we assess clients strengths and needs then implement individualized activities or programs in order to improve overall well-being.
